Thinking Activity : Technoculure, speed and slow movement

Hello viewers,

Welcome to my blog. We all know the word Technology ,speed and slow.but we have some questions about the slow movement. What is it? So This blog is related to cultural studies. As we know that culture is comprehensive all over the world. It is not nature and it change while passing the time, because society gives it shape. This is one activity given by Dr. Barad sir you can also get more information by one click here.

In this blog first we discuss about the some view or term given by Baurdrillad,Paul Virilio and   Ulrich Beak.

Let's see some terms given by them.

View given  by Baudrillard

Simulacra:

This word is derived from Latin word Simulacrum. This word represent meaning that it is imitation of person or thing. As Plato also said that imitation of imitation.

Simulation :

This word represent meaning that it is an appropriate imitation of the operation of a person or system. This word used in many context like,  technology, education, video games, testing and in other as well.

When we see something is imitation so we do not get the truth and reality of that thing. Baudrillard called it hyperreal.

View given by Paul virilio

Dromology:

Paul virilio work on Dromology. It means  the science of speed. Dromology is an exciting reading of late twentieth century cyberculture.

View given by Ulrich Beck

Risk society :

Ulrich Beck given the view on Risk society. He also wrote about it in his thesis 'Risk Society '.Beck inform us ,is not, risk are a about 'becoming real. As soon as risk becoming real.

All of the view given by them above are related with the movement. So when we talk about movement and process we also think about its timing in speed or slow. We all now the Technology is developed so much and it still developing. In this era of technology everything became speedy. So we also think on speed and slow movement. So let's have look on that as well.

Slow Movement :

Slow movement is related with  balance.

Slowness is also about balance, so if you must hurry, then hurry slowly. “Festina Lente!”

In this technological world we want everything very fast.so we always in hurry to get something and to do something. But we should be speedy as well as slow to take decisions.

Baurdrillard  talk about the real and truth. We also here remember the great thinker Plato. He also made his view on reality and truth. Baudrillard said about the depth of something in a speed we can not get one's depth it will not be real.

Virilio argues that higher speed is belongs to the wealthy and upper class society and slower is belongs to lower class and who are poor. He said that this world is governing by the speed. He further said that Instantaneous communication actually reduces the time for detailed discussion, deliberately and consensus -building. So, we can say that be speedy with slowness. So your work process can be taken place in right way.

Beck said that we got the solution of one thing than other one is ready so there are web.. Problem.. Solution... Problem... Solution.

Thinking Activity : Digital Humanities

Hello viewers,

Welcome to my blog. This blog is about Digital humanities.. So let's do some discussion upon it.click here.

Q-1 Define digital humanies.

Digital Humanities is an area of research teaching and creation function with the intersection of computing and the disciplines of the Humanities human disciplines as history philosophy literature art archaeology music and culture study and also Social Science with tools provided by computing and digital publishing.

Q-2  what is doing in English department ?write any three reasons out of six given in article by Matthew G. Kirchenbaum.

Digital Humanities which begin as a term of conscientious among a relatively small group of researchers is now back on a growing number off campus by a level of funding infrastructure and administrative commitment that would have been unthinkable even a decades ago.

Nowadays Digital humanities is very helpful and needful to get knowledge and study.Through it we can get the knowledge and literature of various languages.

Reason :-

First, after numeric input, text has been by far the most tractable data type for computers to manipulate. Unlike image, audio, video and so on,there is a long tradition of text-based data processing that was within the capabilities of even some of the earliest computer system and that has  for decades fed research in field like stylistic, linguistic, and auther attribution studies, all heavily associated with English departments.

Second reason is that, There is the long association between computer and composition, almost as long and just as rich in its lineage.

Third reason is that, The pitch - perfect conversions between the intense conversation around editorial theory and method in the 1980s and the widespread means to implement electronic achieves and edition very  soon after ;Jerome McGann is a key figure hear, with his work on the Rosseti Archive, which he has repeatedly described as a vehicle for applied theory, standing as a paradigmatic.

Q-3   Do you think there is any need of it in the study/ research of literature ?

Yes, it is very helpful.Even it very needful to study and research of literature. Whenever we want some information for study we can easily get information through it. Research of literature is became easier using digital source.

Q-4   Can it help in study/Research original literature written in local language (Hindi Gujarati English Tamil etc) as it helps in the study of literature in English ?

Digital humanities is very helpful In study and as well in research also. It also help to study various languages and also literature of various languages. Sometime we compare two different language's literature.

Thinking activity :unit 4:CS in practice :Frankenstein &writer's Market

Hello viewers,

Introduction:

Welcome to my blog. It is a thinking activity on practice of Frankenstein and writer's Market. Cultural studies has a lens to see the work  differently and in different discourse. Frankenstein is very famous work by Merry Shelly. This blog also about the popular artist or writer. That we think on that how and why they are in list of popular one.

Q-1.  Frankenpheme in contemporary Indian culture.

In the Routledge literary sourcebook on Frankenstein,Timothy Morton uses  the  term frankenpheme, drawn phonemes which is used as in structure of linguistics.and graphemes which is visual elements. This frankenpheme is widely define in context of encoding of race and class in the time 1824.We can also see this type of discrimination in a present time even.

Q-2.   Any popular artist/writer & his market.

Rabindranath Tagore is very famous for his literary work and also as a painter. He was a Bengali poet and he won Noble prize for 'Gitangli'

We can see his work in this graph. There are three works by Rabindranath Tagore: Women face, Dancing women and Gitanjali. This graph indicate year duration  2008 to 2020.

Thinking activity : CS Unit 2: Five Types of CS

Hello readers,

  Introduction:

This is the blog on culture study. There are five types of cultural studies. This is the thinking activity which is part of task given by Dr. Dilip Barad sir. If you need more information you can go through by one click

 Cultural studies :

Cultural studies is investigation of work and the production. We can also says that culture consist every movement of human being. In general definition we can say that culture is art of how to live life. It not nature and so it is flexible and it can change while change the time.

Five types of cultural studies :

British cultural  materialism
New historicism
American multiculturalism
Post-modernism and popular culture
Post-colonial

Let's  discuss this type in brief.

Q-1.  your understanding of British cultural materialism in your own words.

* British cultural  materialism:

In the later 19th century Matthew Arnold sought to redefine the "given" of British culture. Edward burnett Tylor's pioneering anthropological study primitive culture in (1871) argued that culture or Civilization Tekken in its widest ethnographic sense is a complex whole which includes knowledge believes at moral Lo custom in any other abilities and habits acquired by man as a member of society.

Cultural materialism was started in 1950,with the work by F. R. Levis,he was highly influenced by Matthew Arnold. We know that it is like that  sun of Britain is never set when Britain had a power to rein on more than a half world. So the power is also related with materialists and it is a subject of study into study of cultural studies. Feminism is also part plot study in cultural materialist.

Q-2.    What is contribution of Michelle foucault in new historicism? * New Historicism:

In New Historicism  Michel Foucault gave his contribution. From Foucault, new historicists developed the idea of a broad "totalizing" function of culture episteme. Episteme is concept given by Michelle foucault episode is condition of possibility of discourse in a given period it is allowed to  to different object and different theme to spoken at one time not at another time.According to him history in not a universal idea for working out of universally, because of we have not information about the past and present idea in a context of governing ideas.

Q-3 How can new historicists  help in answering the question raised against laputa episode in Gulliver's Travels?

Laputa episode is came into Gulliver Travels. It is very famous work by him. In this episode the land Laputa island is flying in third voyage by Gulliver. This episode is related with the scandal in Eighteenth century.
Susan bruce  ties together some seemingly disparate event of those time. It is related with the scandal involving a "monstrous birth" in royal court.
Di Marco was referring to a scandal which is happen in Royal court birth of rabbits, that rabbit women had inserted into her vagina and then laboured to produce. Then Bruce came to no that depiction of Toft 'son female body as island in third book of Gulliver travel. So we can say that the third episode of Gulliver travel is about the female anatomy and flying island.

Q-4.   Exemplify four types of analysis of popular culture.Apply it on popular artefact.

During the 1960 cultural studies was not study as academic purpose but within the American studies programme it started. In many discourses it consist as study like fiction, women studies, anthropology, history, film study, urban studies, study of book and so on.

There are four types of analysis in popular culture.

1. Production analysis
2.Textual' analysis
3. Audience analysis
4. Historical analysis

Q-5.   Difference between modernism and postmodernism.

Modernism was begin in the 1890 it lasted till about 1945, Postmodernism started after the second world war.

Modernism is not followed the Victorian aesthetic but during time of modernism they use new techniques drawn from psychology, experiment with point of view, time space and stream of consciousness writing.

Post -modernism emerged in art, architecture, music, film, literature, sociology, communication and also some other field.

Thinking activity : Unit 3 CS In practice Hamlet and To His Coy Mistress

Hello viewers,

Introduction:

This work is on Hamlet and To his coy mistress. Hamlet is written by William Shakespeare and The poem To his coy mistress is written by Andrew Marvell. This blog is on cultural studies practice on this tow work.
Literary work are reading in tow way one for study of it, understand and to get knowledge and other reason is to get  entertainment. So, when we study it seriously we find some absent behind the word that what is want to say actually.

Q-1 If these two characters were marginalised in Hamlet they  are even more so in Stoppard's handling. If Shakespeare marginalised the powerless in his on version of Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Stoppard's has marginalised us all in era when -in the eyes of some-all us are caught up in face beyond our control.

Hamlet is a most famous work by William Shakespeare. There are to character, Rosencrantz and Guildnstern. They are not given a central place in his play. After him Tom Stoppard wrote a absurd play on this two characters. He also not given them a important role in his play.so, these both characters are on the periphery. Now we can see the influence and effect of power. As Foucault say that Power is whole complex of force.Under the power of powerful person we have no control over own self. We can do as we like so, this how the power is coming at the centre and we are circulate on the periphery of the circle.

We can take example of government, they are on the top they have power. So what they say and make the rule and regulations we should obey them. Although we have our own thoughts and power as well but we  became powerless.

Q-2.   The poem  'To His Coy Mistress' tells us a lot about the speaker, the listener and also the audience for whom it is written. But what does he not show? As he select these rich and multifarious allusion, what does, what he ignore from culture?

This poem ' To his Coy Mistress ' is written by Andrew Marvell. In cultural studies it studied as, implied culture versus Historical Fact. We can say that Andrew Marvell didn't focus on the historical fact in his poem ' To his coy mistress '.
Present poem tells the reader a good deal about the speaker of the poem.During the poem written that time some historical events happen but poet didn't have any glims on that. There was  a disease spred all over the London and because of that 68000 person killed by this disease named plague and total number of people who got die was 75000 in the course of the epidemic.

Feminism :Elaine Showalter and Gayatri Spivak

Hello readers

Welcome to read my blog. Here this thinking activity is about feminism. Here in this blog I discussed feminism with two women feminist, one is showalter and another one is Gayatri Spivak. Click here to get more information about this thinking activity.

Elain showalter is a writer. Elaine Showalter is an American literary, critic and femeni She wrote many work on women situation and the situation of Victorian age -s women their rights. Some of her work are..:

Work by Elaine Showalter

Toward a Feminist Poetics
The Female Malady: Women, Madness, and English Culture (1830–1980) (1985)
The Female Malady.

When we see the work of showalter ,her works are upon the women, she also find the work on women in history and found  the situation of female. Showalter sketch some characterized women's writing like, awaking, suffering, her unhappiness and  metrophobia.

She alsi trace the history women's literature, and also divided into three phases :

1) The feminine phase
2) The feminist phase
3) The female phase

Ex: Frankenstein.   Showalter illustrated how Victorian doctors reduced the concepts of insanity and hysteria to a specifically female complaint, yet the sensibility of the early 19th century Steel could attribute hysteria symptoms to men.

Gayatri Spivak

Gayatri spivak  is an Indian scholar. She is feminist. She born in Calcutta, India. Her famous work is Can the subaltern speak?    In this work she apply the deconstruction and the theory of Marxism and also capitalism.

She talk about subaltern people, who can not raise their voice against the power.

Subaltern :

A subaltern is someone with a low ranking in a social, political, or other hierarchy. It can also mean someone who has been marginalized or oppressed.

Ex : we can see the Eklavya in Mahabharata and Eklavya in The Purpose. Both are different. In Mahabharata Eklabya had not spoke anything against the power and gave his thumb to Guru Drona. Apart from that in purpose he gave his thumb but he can speak against the power.

Thinking activity :Unit 1 cultural studies

Hello viewers,

Welcome to read my blog. This blog is about the culture. We all know what is culture? But while giving definition we can give our interpretation of the word culture. Any definition can not consist it's exact meaning. If you want to get more information  click here.

In this blog I also write about the study of culture. Now we have question that can we do  study of culture? Because this word has broad meaning in itself. Every village, district, country and  our world have unique culture.

So let's discuss about it. If you have your own interpretation about it write on that  in  comment section. So I can come to know about your culture also...

What is culture?

Culture is "All movement of human being."It is lifestyle. We also can say  "Art of how to live life."

What is cultural studies?

Cultural studies is a innovative idea to study different culture. Not only any one place but also other countries and their traditional and rituals and also of  everyday life.
It is a research and teaching in the field explore the relation between understood as human expressive and symbolic activities, and cultures understood as  distinctive ways of life.

* Cultural studies's four goals :

1) Cultural studies transcends the confines        of a particular discipline such as literary.      criticism or history.

2) Cultural studies is politically engaged.

3) Cultural studies denies  the separation of       "high" and "low".

4) Cultural studies analyses not only the.          cultural work, but also the means of.              production

*How is understanding power at the centre of cultural studies?

Whatever you write, speak, and in your actions power exist. Power is never static, it is like water. No one should come in superiously in power, it will disturb phenomena what it could be.

Ex-   Political power
People should follow the rules made by Government.

Even generally we live under someone's power. At home, there are parents and otherwise society. So we can  say 4th hat power is in the centre.

We can also say the influence of other upon us is also power. Because of that kind of influence will stop us to do what we actually want to do.

In our society so many rules to do or to not do that is also a  kind of power. Social norms ,tradition, law, wealth, state action and ect.

Michel  foucault research about the power in cultural studies and role of it in the power of society.

Conclusion :

We  all know now what is culture?and what is cultural studies? Everyone has their own life. Every day life is culture.but we can learn culture to see other and follow them.

Thinking activity :Ecocriticism &Ecofeminism

Hello,

          Readers...

We know that in our society there are so many discrimination like cast, class,Gender, and so on. Here this blog is about Ecocriticism and Ecofeminism. For more information about blog task click here.

First let's see the definition of both words Ecocriticism and Ecofeminism.

Ecocriticism :

Ecoriticism is a study of the relationship between literature and physical environment.

Lawrence buall is one of  the pioneer of Ecocritism, he was influenced by Emerson. It this study  nature became earth-centered approach to literary study.

Ecocriticism is the study of representations of nature in literary works and of the relationship between literature and the environment.

Ecocriticism as an academic discipline began in earnest in the 1990s, although its roots go back to the late 1970s. It is a new area of study, scholars are still engaged in defining the scope and aims of the subject.

Cheryll Glotfelty, one of the pioneers in the field, has defined ecocriticism as “the study of the relationship between literature and the physical environment,” and Laurence Buell says that this study must be “conducted in a spirit of commitment to environmentalist praxis.” This study, it is argued can not be happen without the study of  environment. it is, in a sense, a form of activism.

Many critics also emphasize the interdisciplinary nature of the enquiry, which is informed by ecological science, politics, ethics, women's studies, Native American studies, and history, among other academic fields. The term “ecocriticism” was coined in 1978 by William Rueckert in his essay “Literature and Ecology: An Experiment in Ecocriticism.”

Ecofeminism :

Ecofeminism in this term nature seen as the faminan perspective.

In our world we see that first is man after that women but we never give equal status to both. There are so many limitation for women in whole world but not that much limitation for man. This all kinds of limitations are made by human so it should changed. Women also have a right to be equal to the man.

We never see that woman gain same values as given to a man. May we can say there is a patriarch society but question is that why society is patriarch? Although in society male and female both have existence. If there is only man than they can give this kind of name, may be, but with woman it should be equal status and values.

Ecofwminist thinker give their view to make the analysis the relationship amoong literature, gender concept and nature. In the world nature is as a 'Woman'. This male female discrimination rooted so deep in the society. It is difficult to destroy it from its root but not impossible.

Thank you...
