Mary Shelley's Frankenstein v/s Kenneth Branagh's movie Frankenstein:

Pre-viewing tasks:

·        What is gothic scientific fiction?

       

  The term Gothic fiction refers to a style of writing that is characterized by elements of fear death horror and gloom as well as romantic elements such as nature individuality and very high motion this emotion can include fear and suspense.

·        What is a frame narrative?

         A story within a story within sometimes yet another story as in for example Mary shelley's Frankenstein. The novel Frankenstein by Mary shelley is narrated by a character role-playing as a storyteller.It is  narrated by the captain of ship to her sister

·        What is the point of view of the author?

We say that authors point of view seems to show the situation of 19th century people have a hunger of knowledge and for that they can go beyond everything we have a example like doctor for stress and Mary shelley's Monster creator Victor Frankenstein we can see that Monster also want female partner as Victor has Elizabeth so when Victor destroy the partner which was made for monster and monster killed Elizabeth find so many Monster than one in Frankenstein.

·        What are the viewpoints of different characters?

In the novel  frankenstein there are different characters. Victor Frankenstein is in a lead role. He had a hungerness of knowledge and he egarly want to change the nature and chellenge to nature for the death.He does not want to lose special one in his life like his mother. 

  Apart from that there  is a female characters  Elizabeth who was beloved of victor. She didn't get any school education. So we get  the information about the 19th century that female have no right to  get education.

  Monster is created by victor. May he will be not monster as per his name but the nature and situations force him to be monster. 

·        Do you have confusion about the title of the novel?

  No I have not confusion about the title of the novel Frankenstein.I would like to say that is very appropriate title for the novel because it is not one Frankenstein's story but more than one.

·        Who do you think is the real monster, the Creator or the Creature?

 I think the monster is a real monster. I can say that it is my assumption before watching movies and reading novel. (before not watching the movie)

 

·        What is tabula rasa?

·        What is the significance of the subtitle "The Modern Prometheus"?

·        Do you think Mary Shelley's Frankenstein stands on the brick of revolutionary changes?

 Yes because it is a new era start with this novel.

While viewing the movie:

·        How is the beginning and the end of the movie?

  The beginning of the movie is created mistry in audience mind and it's end make clear the all scene and we felt sympathy for the monstar when he says  'He is my father '.

·        Do you feel the effect of horror in the movie?

  No I didn't feel effect of horror in the movie. There is some scene of horror but it is not horrible for me. 

·        What do you think about the character of the monster in the movie?

The character of movie is created so it is not like a natural creation there are many limitation of monster. May b  he is look like monster and society make him monster because no one is accept him even not victor. There is a room he may will not be monster but situation made him.

·        What do you think about the conversation between Victor and the monster?

·        Do you think that some scenes are omitted or replaced by other scene? How is the effect of these changes?

·        Do you think the director has used appropriate symbols in the movie?

   Yes, there so many symbol which are very well used by director. Like symbol of cross.

·        What is the difference between the movie and the novel?

·        Does the movie help you to understand narrative structure of the novel?

 Yes. The movie by Kenneth is very near to real text. So it's very useful to understand the novel by Shelley.

·        Do you think the movie is helpful to understand the viewpoints of different characters?

  Yes, movie gives the image of characters of novel so it's make clear all characters .

·        What do you think about the creation of lady monster in the novel and Elizabeth's look of a monster in the movie?

·        Think about Victor's acceptance of Elizabeth and rejection of the monster.

Elizabeth is life for victor  he can not live without her. So, first when he created monster he had no idea about how will be his creation look like.So he reject the monster after that he was his first creation.but when he created  Elizabeth,we know he loves him so much that's why he accepted by him.both are monster like monster because of their look otherwise they are not monster. 

·        Do you think the director is faithful to the novel?

   In movie by Kenneth Branagh  as a director he taken some liberty and freedom to making changes in movie.He modified some scene which  we are not see in novel by Shelley.but after that we can understand that every written screwy may be not possible to play on stage or in a movie there are some limitations.so, yes we can say that directer is faithful to the novel.

Thinking activity: understanding of characteristics of Good poetry by Matthew Arnold

   This blog is about understanding of characteristics  good poetry  which is given by Matthew Arnold. So  here is my work upon that which is given by Dr Barad sir.if you want to  get more information click here. 

     We know that Matthew Arnold was critic of 19th century also He could of good poetry .He deals and talks about judgement and evolution of good poetry. He was cultural critic and critique and commented on cultural and social issue as well as about education.

 

     For Arnold poetry and cultural become modes  of interiority  in order to nullify the exteriority of bourage is existence.

  This essay is not directed to the professional man of letters but four general middle class people who has interest in poetry. This is about the how we say in judge and evaluate a good poetry.


My view about good poetry:


  Arnold says that, “the best poetry is what we want; the best poetry will be found to have a power of forming, sustaining, and delighting us, as nothing else can”.

    According to me when we just  try to understand what poem says you can get the real estimate and truth.poetry is not just for reading enjoyment  but to find the delight and the truth of time.

  When we know about  the  author and time or the information about certain situations and society there  will be  some kind of prejudice to get the real meaning of poem.

 Disinterestness on the part of the critic implies freedom from all prejudice personal or historical. Comedy comes from the high seriously, it's not come from the laughter and comedy.

When we read the poem and 12 arrived at real estimate we should break personal fallacy and historical fallacy and escape from the being  emotionl also don't over power on other's judgement and intention of poet or author should be  removed that time.

   See this poem is very easy to get the meaning. We can  see it's has  simple words to describe the feeling and emotion but it gives seriousness of life and real feelings.
 
    Arnold says that "poetry is  criticism of life " Good and bad is desided by us that poetry is good or bad. He said  try to understand poem without any predjudise or escape from the emotion and feeling or familiar with the name of its creator.
   

Workshop on Quality and Authenticity of Web Resources

     This blog is about the quality and authenticity of  web resources.On 19th November 2019,there was a workshop organised by Dr. Dilip Barad sir  at English department, Bhavanagar.This workshops was organised ,behind the  reason  is that students can check the quality and  the authenticity of web resources which are we using to get information.

    As we nowadays people use internet and site to gain the knowledge and  reader became less of book.In this situation we should know that  information which we want and taken by us from net are right or not.

  There are five  parameters to check the site how much the site  is authentic and  qualitative. These five parameters are:

1. Authenticity

2. Educational

3. Intense

4. Originality

5. Quality

    Above parameters with  check the  site's criteria and give the point also the site which you used or also other site one can check with these parameters.

•3.0 - 4.0: highly credible, quality sources

•2.0 – 3.0: credible sources

•1.0 – 2.0: questionable sources

•0.0 – 1.0: unacceptable or inappropriate.                        sources

 This how  you can give the point to the site...

   Nowaday  people do ccp to make research paper and assignment. This is very useful to check it originality and quality. This five parameters and some other trick we also know about the plagiarism in work. This how we can evaluate the site..

Plagiarism is a reality of our work. May be everything is not copy and paste but it also shows  the originality of work. 

Thinking activity :My view on Nature and experience...

       This blog is about the  nature and what is my view on that and also some experience with nature... So I hope you like to read it..

       When we talk about the nature ,we tried to define it, but nature is the word has a broad meaning.we cannot fit it in any particular word or give it a definition that that is nature ,even though we can give the our own perspective upon the nature that what is nature? I want to say that there are two types of Nature;  one is human nature and other one is all what are surrounding us like; tree,sky, Star, flower, water, noise, Birds, river,cloud and so on.

     If someone ask what is the my definition of nature I would like to say that nature is Beauty as we all know that it is our on vision that how? when? where?and in which situation? we see the things(nature).Nature has its own beauty and on the earth is cover up with the beauty and nature.

   As I said that human nature and nature both are related with each other because one is internal and other is external .The external (nature) is helps to know one's internal nature. we can see the nature with eyes but not the human nature with eyes but we should understand one's nature to be with them or their behaviour.

   Another meaning  nature is a way to get the peace of mind and happiness of Soul.It makes our mind stable to think about the situation and get the way how to face the situation and the problem.

         In Literature of every language there are so many creation on nature with different genre like;poem,novel,short stories specially we find it travelogue.In English literature in romantic age there were so many poets who wrote poem on nature.William Wordsworth, Coleridge and keat ect.

      Nature is not only for the see and enjoy to watch it but when we observe it we find the message from it from the River,Spider Insect, Eagle,Birds, Tree,Season eat. 

  Nature also give us the way to think to what spirituality and happiness it is give us the happiness of our soul. so see, the nature takes so wide meaning in itself.

  We know that a small child feels protection and fearless in lap of her and his mother as we say that nature is like our mother and we feel free from fear and happy.

   Here I would like to share my trip about the south India and here some pictures about that nature... 

   

   All  the pictures about my tour of south India. We got a chance to stay near the ocean at Vivekananda Aashram kanyakumari.For me  a great chance to sea the views under  night with star and moon and listen the waves of ocean and it was awesome experience... 

   

   Other one is about the Hathap Sea and  ride bicycal on the sea shore... 

 Now  I have a place at my department with tree and a small pond and I like to stay there and observe the nature and talk with them...
