Eco -criticism

 Welcome Readers....

Here is my blog on Eco criticism and how we can see the it in context of post colonial. So this task to write upon and here it is.

Introduction :

When we  going to discuss about the Eco - criticism let see frost it definition what is it? Then we will look further on Post colonial view and how it is depicted in various literature.

Eco -criticism

When we read about the environment and ecology. And how it's depicted into literature, how literature talk about ecology and environmental, that study is eco - criticism.

Eco - criticism as a form of literary and culture has an origin in North America thogh it moved quickly  to Europ.

Ecocritical post-colonial study is a newly emerged field in literary criticism. The theory combines the study of post-colonial environment in literary work and reveals a relationship between literature and the environment. Before the word ‘Ecocriticism’ was coined in the world of literature, from the beginning, writers were exclusively engaged presenting nature as source of inspiration and a privilege to evolve their ideas and pen them down.

With the introduction of the term Ecocriticism in literary criticism by the Association of the Study of Literature and Environment in 1993, scholars approached the analysis of texts to highlight environmental concerns and explore the roles of literature to bring awareness to society.

Post-colonialism, on the other hand, as a response to colonization, studies the cultural and economic exploitation of the colonized/marginalized-- the natives and their land. As one can see the split between the two schools of thought-- nature versus culture--has been a trend for more than a decade. This split of thought has obliterated the fact that the environment is an integration of nature and culture, humans and nonhumans, animate and inanimate.

We got many examples in which we find this theory. In context of  Post colonial we can find many examples. Like Robinson Crusoe

Devang   Natavati sir

We have session by Devang sir. He taked about the eco criticism and also gave example and read poem.

He discussed some poem by Sitanshu Trivedi .poem from "Tree once again "

He also talk about why and how ecology and eco criticism is important. He said that tree has no language to talk but they have live. So we have to save them. Eco- criticism  appreciate Green centricism.

There many who write upon eco criticism and gave their contribution in this field as well. Like Vandana shiva, Gunjan Gandhi .

  In discussion I put one point there that in Gujarati literature,Umashankar joshi aslo wrote poem;

વિશાળ જગવિસ્તારે નથી એક જ માનવી

પશું છે પંખી છે વનોની છે વનસ્પતિ

Amitav Ghosh’s The Hungry Tide is one of the admirable works in Indian-English Literature. Ghosh’s writing usually focuses on mixing most cultures and identities. Concomitant with this theme, The Hungry Tide is about the conflicts between the culture and species living in Morichjhanpi, a small village in Sundarban. It is an exotic island, an archipelago, which paints a treacherous picture of inhabitants who live in fear of fierce tides, wild animals, and the struggle to make their living. Sundarban has a history, the legacy of colonization, and extraordinary flora and fauna, which determines the living

condition of Bangladeshi refugees living in that space.

The Hungry Tide reflects upon the discourse of the archipelago. Life in an archipelago is beyond the imagination of ordinary human beings who live in landlocked areas. As a matter of fact, the lifestyle in the archipelago is challenging because it is not programmed to be pursued the way it is in a landlocked, well organized city. Vegetation is highly rich. It is the home of some of the most unique species which are difficult to find in general.
