The Tempest

 Welcome to my blog ...

This is the blog on The Tempest and A tempest... A Tempest  is retelling of Shakespeare's play.

Whenever we read any book we apply many theory and term on that. And try to interpret many ways. Some time we found many elements into another literary work. So, we do comparison that in which context they are similar or different perspective. So here The Tempest and A tempest we will  discuss upon that.

When the work was done, I realized there was not much Shakespeare left.

- Aime Cesaire

The Tempest  is play which is written by William Shakespeare. Another one A Tempest  is written by  Aime Cesaire.Aime's work is retelling of Shakespeare's play. Aime wrote it in context of colonial perspective. Caliban and Ariel who are the colonised by Prospero. Who was vanished by his own brother. Prospero became lord of Island. There are fictional and non fictional work so A Tempest  is fiction work in that one  Aime modified the play.

Here we can see the both things are going together. Ariel who wants freedom then even he always obey to his master and another character is Caliban so he wants his land back so he hates Prospero. He tries to vanish his power and never wanted to be under  control of prospero.

We can say  that in The  Tempest  prospero and his brother Antonio both are important. One is protagonist and one is antagonist. And here the play  by Aime,he put this story in context of Colonialism. So here he gave important to Prospero ,Ariel and Caliban. Prospero is a master and other both are slave.

We can also take example of  Robinson Crusoe. We can also see there relationship of master and slave. How he gave name him as Friday. Otherwise  it was not his real name.

A Tempest focuses on the plight of Ariel and Caliban the never-ending quest to gain freedom from Prospero and his rule over the island. Ariel, dutiful to Prospero, follows all orders given to him and sincerely believes that Prospero will honor his promise of emancipation. Caliban, on the other hand, slights Prospero at every opportunity: upon entering the first act, Caliban greets Prospero by saying “Uhuru!”, the Swahili word for “freedom.” Prospero complains that Caliban often speaks in his native language which Prospero has forbidden. This prompts Caliban to attempt to claim birthrights to the island, angering Prospero who threatens to whip Caliban.

There are some dialogue of slave and master relation in the play

PROSPERO: Oh, so you're upset, are you! It's always like that with intellectuals! So be it! What interests me is not your moods, but your deeds. Let's split: I’ll take the zeal and you can keep your doubts. Agreed?

ARIEL: Master, I must beg you to spare me this kind of labor.

PROSPERO: (shouting) Listen, and listen well! I've got a job to do, and I don't care how it gets done!

ARIEL: You've promised me my freedom a thousand times, and I'm still waiting. (Cesaire)

This way we can see  how the behaviour of master and which kind of treatment is given by master Prospero to his slave Ariel. It is also ay the mindset is constructed of slave and the only thing is become making out if this concern is to be rebellious. But if sense is works and slave get to know that his or her master is depended on him/her.
